Blog Prompt #1: Megan Reardon
Good morning,
Today I will be discussing Megan Reardon’s humble approach to her crafting blog, “Not Martha.”
Megan discusses in her interview that she began her blog at her own convenience, so that she had somewhere to save information that she wanted to look back on. Megan stated, “I really just needed a place to keep nots on things I was making.” She ended up integrated her interests of crafts and knitting towards creating her own perspective, hence her blog posts. Does this sound familiar to anyone? The first thing that came to my mind was Pinterest.
Pinterest is hands-down my favorite digital media tool because it allows me to create boards and save information based on my best interest. People follow my boards because they are influenced by the information I save. Pinterest is like one big “sharing is caring” app, with a never-ending pool of blogs, photos, recipes, travel ideas, quotes, and anything else you can think of. It provides people with the opportunity to, not only inspire ourselves, but inspire others.
Megan also explains that blogging has opened the door to communicating with people that are much kinder and weirder than they allow themselves to be in public. From my own experiences, I anonomously blog about the unique and personal situations that have taken place in my life. I began my personal blog in hopes that I am not the only person going through similar abstract situations, and I can give others insight on how I handle my crazy, beautiful life.
Megan stressed to the interviewer that blogging has made her aware of a much larger world by putting her in touch with people she would never know otherwise, and I couldn’t agree more. Blogging brings people together by inspiring one another through experiences and interests that they do not have to celebrate alone.
